As per the legend regarding Feng Shui, at or around
the year 2205 BC, a huge, noble tortoise emerged from
the legendary river Lo.
In its back it was carrying nine numbers arranged in
a grid pattern, which corresponds to the Pa-Kuas
eight Trigrams around a ninth central point.
The numbers in the grid pattern were arranged in such
a way that no matter which way the numbers of the square
are tallied, they add up to 15. Number 15 coincide with
the number of days in each of the 24 phases of the Solar
Year.
The Lo Shu Magic Square is a mysterious pattern that forms the basis for Chinese architectural planning. The squares represent the flow of the seasons as well as the rooms of a building or house, square 5 being the central courtyard.
