According to Parker’s Astrology, “Astrology is not something to lean on: it shows us our strengths and weaknesses, and, most importantly, how we can develop strengths”. For centuries people are depending on astrology to know about them, their future and so on.

With the aid of mathematical calculations and by analysing the planetary positions, Astrology predicts the events and happenings precisely. The stars or the planets possess tremendous electro-magnetic force. To know about the accurate impact of a planet on a person an astrologer should know about its position, direction, transition etc at a specific time. Every planet passes through a definite period of good or bad influence. The science of Astrology finds out the period of these influences.

Among the planets, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn were known to man since they begin watching the sky, later after the invention of telescope, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were discovered.

In Western Astrology, the personality analysis is done by using the natal chart, a map of the planetary positions at one’s date, place and time of birth. Natal chart is used in Western Astrology from the Hellenistic period onwards. It is a graphical representation of the position of Sun, Moon and Planets at the exact moment of birth of a person. For recognizing the positions of the planets and their symbolic states, the natal chart is divided into twelve signs and twelve houses. The former became the zodiacal signs and the latter System of Houses.

The twelve signs in the zodiac are Aries (Mar 21 - Apr 20), Taurus (Apr 21 - May 21), Gemini (May 22 - June 21), Cancer (Jun 22 - July 22), Leo (July 23 - Aug 23), Virgo (Aug 24 - Sept 22), Libra (Sept 23 - Oct 23), Scorpio (Oct 24 - Nov 22), Sagittarius (Nov 23 - Dec 21), Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 20), Aquarius (Jan 21 - Feb 18) and Pisces (Feb 19 - Mar 20).

The advice of an astrologer will do good for those born on the cusp, i.e. near one of the end dates between two signs, as the sun may enter or leave a sign earlier or later than the usual dates on leap year and time zones. Exact time and place are necessary requisites for this.

The 12 signs of our zodiac got their name and myths associated to them from ancient civilizations, probably the Greek.

A brief history of Western astrology

As per the experts, the philosophers of Greece commenced history of western astrology in the 5th century BC. Greek philosopher Plato and later Stoics brought respectability to astrology. The textbook the Tetrabiblos wrote by Ptolemy in second century AD laid the foundation for the astrological practice of today’s style. In the later centuries astrology faded for a period at West, but it came back in medieval period and it flourished in age of Renaissance (roughly 15th to 17th century). During renaissance astrology faced its extreme peaks and valleys.

Astrology was revived in the early 20th Century thanks to the new spiritualist movement, particularly Theosophy. Writers like Alan Leo, Llewelyn George, Evangeline Adams et al brought astrology back to the forefront. Modern developments in astrology included a western sidereal branch advocated by Cyril Fagan, astrology applied to the stock market, Cosmobiology, and the frameworks of Jungian psychoanalysis and human potential psychology.

Astrology is the meaningful relationship of celestial phenomena, i.e, the movement of the planets through the zodiac and its actions on earth. Astrology enables a person to understand oneself and other people, and the flows in the life, either good or bad.
